How is the basic integration limited?

With a free account, once you connect your Shopify store, your Shopify products will be synced to Skutally. Updates that you make in Skutally will be pushed to Shopify but updates from Shopify will be ignored.
Also, the customer based pricing is a premium feature only.

Importing data from an active Shopify Store

  • All Products, Variants and Images are imported to Skutally automatically.
  • but the metafield data is not.

You must import the metafield data points into Skutally using our CSV import tool, manually or using the API.

What are the benefits of using Skutally instead of Shopify for managing products?

Plenty of reasons, including enhanced roles, additional data points, bulk edits, full csv imports/exports, additional integrations, and more. For product management, your staff don't need to access your e-commerce platform and, instead, can use an app dedicated to make your products better at talking to customers.

If I update a product in Shopify, is it updated in Skutally?

With Shopify basic (free integration), Skutally only syncs from Shopify when connected for the first time.

With Shopify premium (paid integration), active sync is enabled and specific data updates from Shopify are accepted in Skutally; such as new products and user-generated product tags.

Since our goal is to manage product data across multiple data stores.

Skutally must be the primary hub for product information updates. This ensures that data is not lost, only those with role-based access can edit product information and provides privacy for "admin-only" data.

How often is my information synced to Shopify?

We use a queue based system for pulling or pushing information from and to Shopify. The speed of sync depends on how many products you have in your store, how many changes are pending, and if you're in a free or paid integration (free integrations have fewer available workers than paid integrations).

Price list events are synced overnight and, depending on the amount of products affected, it might take a few minutes or hours to complete.

If I update a product in Skutally, is it updated in Shopify?

Yes. All the information, such as the title, description, images, are sent to Shopify. For that reason, we recommend using Skutally to manage your products as it gives you more flexibility and you can connect to more apps/integrations at any time.

Products and Variants

  • Skutally tangles are the equivalent of Shopify products.
  • Skutally products are the equivalent of Shopify variants.

When sending changes, Shopify products may be converted to their multi-variant versions as they have better support for metafields and custom attributes.


Skutally sends taxonomies, types, price lists, compatibilities, related products and custom attributes as tags of products. You can use these tags in the Shopify storefront and admin to filter products and, for example, create automated collections.

In order to prevent data loss and overwriting user-generated tags from Shopify; Skutally upholds a tag naming structure.

It is important that you write tags in Shopify which do not match Skutally's tag structure (overlapping the product tag structure may result in data loss).


Skutally sends multiple data points as global metafields of products per variant. You can use these metafields in the Shopify storefront to showcase additional product data and, for example, calculate dimensional shipping for orders.

Skutally writes but does not read metafield data.

Are my orders and customers synced?

Not at this time. It is in our roadmap to make the Shopify integration more inclusive but we're focused today in product information management.

How different is the premium integration (paid accounts)?

Once you upgrade to a paid account, your Shopify App and Sync Speed is upgraded too. Active sync is enabled, meaning Skutally will listen for updates from Shopify and apply the changes made to your products. You'll also have access to customer based pricing for draft orders from the Shopify admin and customer checkouts for the storefront.

What is customer based pricing?

You can associate price lists to customers using tags. So, for example, if you create a price lists called Wholesale  and you add the tag Pricelist::Wholesale  to a customer in Shopify, the customer will be able to buy in your Shopify store based on prices from the linked price list (requires modifications in your Shopify theme). Or, you can also go to a specific order in the Shopify admin, go to "More actions" and click the "Apply Price List" button. You can then choose which price list to use and the prices of the order will be adjusted accordingly.
